The Integrated Transport Centre in Abu Dhabi, affiliated with the Department of Municipalities and Transport, has completed the installation of 185 air-conditioned waiting shelters in the past year, while currently working on 25 additional shelters in various areas across the emirate. The total number of air-conditioned waiting shelters in the emirate has reached 472, with locations chosen based on passenger volume and bus route frequency.
The centre emphasized the importance of adhering to preventive measures against COVID-19, including monitoring the number of passengers in each shelter. It confirmed that all bus waiting shelters and service facilities undergo regular, comprehensive sanitization as part of the precautionary health measures to ensure community safety.
Last year, the fleet of public buses saw a 44% increase, bringing the total to 769 buses, while the average daily passenger trips grew by 11%, averaging 222,600 trips. The length of the network increased by 5%, totaling 8,650 km.
To facilitate access to public transport services, the centre launched augmented reality technology in May to display real-time bus schedules via smartphones. This is a new electronic service accessible through the website: https://darbi.itc.gov.ae/itc-ar or by scanning a QR code available at bus waiting areas. The augmented reality technology provides public transport users with real-time information and data regarding public bus service schedules, enhancing their commuting experience.
