Italian Woman Awakens from Coma to Find She Has Given Birth

An Italian woman who fell into a coma for 10 months after suffering a heart attack has woken up to find she has given birth to a child. Christina Rossi, 37, from Tuscany, was in the later stages of her pregnancy when she experienced a heart attack in July of last year, during which her baby was delivered via cesarean section in the emergency room while she was still in a coma.

After many months, Christina woke from the coma, and her first word was "Mama," according to her husband, Gabriel Sochi, 42. Mr. Sochi stated that he and Mrs. Rossi's mother heard her utter her first word while they were by her bedside. He added, "We didn't expect that. It was a real joy after all this suffering."

Mrs. Rossi's mother said that hearing her daughter speak again at a clinic near Innsbruck, Austria, felt like "giving birth for the second time," adding, "The doctors want to get her back on her feet and are convinced of Christina's potential." Mr. Sochi mentioned that his wife can now breathe and swallow without assistance in what he described as a "miracle," as reported by The Times.

He added that his wife broke down in tears when she heard a supportive voice message from her favorite singer Gianna Nannini, as she and her husband were scheduled to attend her concert before she had the heart attack. Mrs. Rossi will receive physical therapy at a private clinic, and her husband is raising funds to cover the treatment costs. So far, he has managed to raise £156,000 ($195,000) but is trying to reach £250,000 ($312,000), according to the British newspaper Mirror.
