Portuguese coach José Mourinho has revealed a secret about Belgian star Eden Hazard, which may explain his failure at Spanish club Real Madrid, where he transferred two years ago. Hazard has struggled since joining Real Madrid in 2019, facing constant injuries and failing to showcase the level of performance he had consistently shown at Chelsea, making him a target for fan mockery and media criticism.
Speaking about the reason for Hazard's "failure" at "Santiago Bernabéu," Mourinho commented in an interview with TalkSport. He explained, "Hazard is a great player, but a terrible trainer." He elaborated, "He comes to training every morning but doesn't train much. Just imagine what he could have become if he committed to professionalism."
Mourinho, who worked with Hazard at Chelsea, emphasized that "what we saw on the pitch with Chelsea in terms of dazzling skills was not the result of weekly work, but rather his natural talent."
Despite his critiques regarding Hazard's athletic performance, Mourinho affirmed that he is a "great person" off the field, stating, "Hazard is a wonderful person. He is a perfect family man who keeps his private life private and cares deeply about his family and parents."
Currently, Hazard is participating with the Belgian national team in the UEFA European Championship, hoping to regain his form away from the shadow of injuries.
