Today in Cairo, businessman Ansi Naguib Sawiris, the patriarch of the Sawiris family and father of businessman Naguib Sawiris, passed away. Ansi Sawiris was born in 1930 and earned a bachelor's degree in agriculture from Cairo University in 1950. He was one of the most prominent Egyptian entrepreneurs and the founder and chairman of Orascom Group. His career began in the 1950s with a contracting company named "Ansi & Lamai," which focused on road paving and irrigation canal digging. In 1976, he established "Orascom for General Contracting and Trading," which later became Orascom Construction Industries. The company's activities expanded in the 1980s and 1990s to include tourism, hotels, computer services, and mobile phone services, making the group one of the largest Egyptian companies.
