The new Apple iPhone operating system, iOS 15, is set to be available this fall with many new features. One such feature in the developer beta version is called "Focus," which allows you to silence all distractions—any notifications from apps or messages that you don’t care about—during specific times, letting you review all these notifications later. This means you can enjoy your normal life with family, watch a movie, or read a book without seeing any new notifications on your phone.
Currently, even with the existing Do Not Disturb mode, iPhones continue to receive notifications and alerts for new messages; while they may not all be disruptive, they can take away control of your time, according to CNBC. The Focus feature is a more comprehensive tool in the new iPhone operating system, offering customization options that provide you full control over which apps and people can reach you. With just a tap on Face ID-enabled iPhones, you only need to swipe down from the top right of the screen in iOS 15 and tap a new button called "Focus."
For example, you can receive notifications from your spouse or specific individuals while blocking out others. Even if you pick up your phone, you won’t see notifications for text messages, alerts, or anything else you have muted. Once iOS 15 becomes available to everyone, people will be able to send you messages if they see you are in Focus mode, which is beneficial for emergencies.
If you really want to know if you’re missing important incoming notifications, you can take a quick glance at a summary of the notifications you received while in Focus mode by swiping down from the top of the screen. However, this remains significantly less tempting than seeing pop-up alerts. The update will be available for everyone in the fall, but a public beta release will allow people to try out the new features sometime in July.
