Vienna has begun to expand COVID testing among children despite the overall easing of pandemic restrictions in the country. The Mayor of Vienna, Michael Ludwig, announced on Wednesday that children aged six or older will need to provide proof of a negative COVID test if they wish to participate in events or enter restaurants. Previously, such tests were only required for children starting from the age of ten.
Starting tomorrow, the age for testing will be raised to twelve in other Austrian provinces as well. Ludwig warned that the crisis is not over yet, stating, "The variants must be taken seriously," particularly referring to the more contagious Delta variant.
Austria's infection rate over the past seven days for every 100,000 residents has decreased to below eight a few days ago, while the recent rate in the capital, Vienna, was 17.5.
