Security authorities in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq have closed Erbil International Airport following a missile attack.
Iraqi media sources reported on Monday evening that Erbil International Airport was hit by three missiles, resulting in two people being injured. Strict security measures have been implemented in the vicinity of the airport, along with its closure and military helicopters flying overhead. Security forces have been deployed in the streets while firefighting teams rushed to extinguish the fires caused by the falling missiles. Earlier today, the Counter-Terrorism Directorate in the Kurdistan Region announced that Erbil International Airport had been targeted with missiles, stating that two missiles fell within the airport, while a third fell outside it, striking a wall of the Naz City complex, formerly known as Zakaria Apartments. It is noteworthy that this is the second such attack; unknown assailants targeted the airport with six missiles last September without causing any casualties, and at that time, the regional authorities accused Popular Mobilization Forces of being responsible for that missile attack, as the missiles originated from the Nineveh Plain in the north of the country where these factions are deployed.
