Under the title "Syria.. Death of Hezbollah's Top Man in Daraa," the Al-Arabiya website reported that after several previous assassination attempts, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights announced on Saturday the death of the most notable Hezbollah agent in the eastern countryside of Daraa, southern Syria. Information conveyed that the victim was directly shot by unknown gunmen in the town of Saida, east of Daraa, leading to his immediate death.
Hezbollah's Top Man
Opposition media networks mentioned that the victim's name was Aref Al-Jahmani, who was considered Hezbollah's top man in the Syrian city of Daraa. According to statistics from the Syrian Observatory, the number of attacks and assassination attempts in Daraa and southern Syria, implemented through various methods such as detonating explosives, mines, and firing, has reached 1,126 attacks and assassinations from June 2019 to the present day.
Transformations in the Region and Iranian Influence
Multiple sources reported last year that Hezbollah began a gradual withdrawal plan from Syria, specifically from the southern and southeastern fronts, with more than 2,500 fighters, experts, and military leaders withdrawn. Reports indicated that a significant number of the party's fighters returned to Lebanon in the middle of last year, rejoining military centers in Lebanon, especially in the south adjacent to the borders with occupied territories.
Additionally, sources confirmed at that time that the region is undergoing major transformations, from which Hezbollah, as one of Iran's prominent military arms, will not be immune. The events in Syria over the past two years and the Israeli strikes on military sites belonging to Iran and Hezbollah cannot be separated from these transformations that bear the title "Ending Iran's Influence in the Region," according to the information at that time.
