The Nineveh Investigative Court announced its retention of large amounts of money and valuable assets found beneath the rubble of a house in the Shawan neighborhood of Mosul, intended for delivery to the Central Bank of Iraq, according to a report by Al-Furat News. The media center of the Supreme Judicial Council stated in a release that "the court announced the discovery of one million six hundred thousand US dollars, along with gold and silver coins, bars, and gold artifacts in the old Shawan area while one of the excavators was removing debris from the old houses."
The statement added that "the mentioned money and materials were hidden in plastic barrels and nylon bags, buried about three meters underground," speculating that this money was likely used by the ISIS organization to finance its terrorist operations during its withdrawal to the right side of the old city."
The statement also confirmed that "the judge of the Nineveh Investigative Court decided to retain the seized items in preparation for their delivery to the Central Bank."
