COVID-19 Deaths in Brazil Exceed 524,000

The Brazilian Ministry of Health announced on Sunday that the death toll from COVID-19 in the country has surpassed 524,000, with 830 new deaths recorded in the last 24 hours. The ministry's data indicated that Brazil reported 27,783 new infections in the same period, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 18,769,808, according to Reuters. In recent weeks, Brazil has faced high numbers of new COVID-19 cases, reaching a record on June 23, when the daily count hit 115,228 cases. Brazil is the third most affected country in the world by COVID-19, after the United States and India, and has the second-highest death toll after the United States.
