Data released by the European Central Bank revealed the richest and poorest countries in "the old continent," based on financial assets of households in the fourth quarter of 2020. According to the American website CNBC, Danish households are the wealthiest in the European Union, with an average financial asset of 1.88 million Danish kroner (approximately $300,000) in the fourth quarter of 2020. It was noted that the net financial wealth of Danes reached 1.32 million Danish kroner, nearly three times the average wealth of citizens from other EU countries, which stands at 450,000 Danish kroner. The Danish people are considered among the happiest in the world, alongside the Finnish, according to the World Happiness Report released by the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network in March.

Households in Luxembourg rank second in terms of financial assets, with 1.59 million Danish kroner, followed by the Netherlands with 1.58 million Danish kroner, and Sweden in fourth place with 1.51 million Danish kroner.
