King of Jordan: The Region Cannot Enjoy Security Without a Comprehensive Solution to the Palestinian Issue

King Abdullah II of Jordan stated during a summit between his country, Egypt, and Palestine in Cairo that "the region cannot enjoy security and stability without a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue based on the two-state solution." He added that the meeting in Cairo "confirms the commitment to provide all means of support for our brothers in Palestine and to continue efforts to reactivate the peace process." The king emphasized that "the current situation cannot continue, and the region cannot enjoy security and stability without a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue based on the two-state solution, which ensures the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital." He reiterated that "Jordan will continue to exert all efforts to maintain the legal and historical status quo in Jerusalem and to protect and care for the Islamic and Christian holy sites there under the Hashemite custodianship."
