Lebanese artist Elissa mourned the death of her aunt Jandark on Tuesday morning, stating that the reason was old age, not the novel coronavirus.
Elissa shared on her official social media page, a tweet on Twitter, on Tuesday morning: "Good morning, I am deeply saddened by the death of my aunt. I pray that God embraces her soul with His mercy. Remember her in your prayers." She also confirmed that Lebanese officials attempted to register her aunt's death as due to COVID-19, but Elissa refused this. She wrote in a tweet: "Today my aunt Jandark passed away, and thank God it's not 'COVID' – her time was up, but they insisted on recording it as 'COVID', and we didn't accept it."
Elissa criticized Lebanese officials on Twitter amid rising COVID-19 cases in Lebanon, stating: "Honestly, after seeing the lies of the Health Minister and some deputies and officials, I now have doubts about the accuracy of the large numbers of COVID infection cases and even about those who died and how they died... no trust."
Additionally, Elissa confirmed in the third episode of her "Elissa Podcast" on the Anghami music app that she is determined to fully exercise her right to express her opinions freely, noting that "every leader in Lebanon still claims to defend his group in the name of religion, exploiting the people, and frankly the people erred when they elected them and suffered from their political practices and then elected them again."
