At least 41 inmates have died, and dozens more have been injured in a fire that broke out in a prison near the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, police announced on Wednesday. Fadil Imran, the Jakarta police chief, told reporters that the fire erupted at the Tangerang prison on the outskirts of the capital early Wednesday, when most of the prisoners were asleep, resulting in "the deaths of 41 inmates and serious injuries to eight others, while 72 others suffered minor injuries."
