The leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, published a tweet via his "Twitter" account, requesting that the Electoral Commission hasten the announcement of the election results and consider the legal appeals. Al-Sadr wrote: "We urge the commission to expedite the announcement of the election results and to consider the legal appeals, to remove 'all opportunities for those involved in the political process.'"
The elections, which began for public voting yesterday (Sunday), saw over 3,000 candidates distributed across 83 electoral districts, competing for 329 seats in the Iraqi parliament. The elections were conducted in 8,273 polling centers nationwide, with the participation of 1,249 international observers and 147,152 local observers, according to the spokesperson for the Independent High Electoral Commission, Jumana al-Ghalai.
