Japan's exports increased by 2% in December on a year-on-year basis, according to data released by the Japanese Ministry of Finance.
This rise follows a decrease of 4.2% in the previous month, making it the first annual increase since 2018. This uptick could signal the beginning of a recovery in exports, which may alleviate the risk of another recession, and could allow the Bank of Japan to meet its growth forecasts for the upcoming fiscal year during its upcoming interest rate review, while also anticipating that the bank will maintain its policy without any changes.
