The UAE Ministry of Economy announced on Sunday that the UAE and Syria have agreed on plans to enhance economic cooperation and explore new sectors. The ministry tweeted that the non-oil trade volume between the two countries reached 1 billion dirhams in the first half of 2021.
The UAE Ministry of Economy stated in a post on its "Twitter" account that "Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, the UAE Minister of Economy, reviewed future plans to enhance economic cooperation and explore opportunities in new sectors with Mohammed Samer Khleif, the Syrian Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade."
The ministry confirmed that "the UAE is one of Syria's most important global trading partners, with the UAE's share of Syria's foreign trade being approximately 14 percent."
The statement further noted that the non-oil trade volume between the UAE and Syria during the first half of 2021 was around 1 billion dirhams. Meanwhile, the non-oil trade volume last year in 2020 was about 2.6 billion dirhams, while the value of direct Syrian investment in the UAE exceeded 1.5 billion dirhams by the end of 2019.
