The National News Agency reported that Lebanese Energy Minister Walid Fayad received American assurances to protect the partners in the project supplying Lebanon with Egyptian gas from the sanctions of the Caesar Law. The agency added that the minister received these assurances during a meeting with Amos Hochstein, the new American mediator in the indirect negotiations for demarcating the southern maritime borders. An agreement announced last month stipulates that Egypt will supply Lebanon with natural gas through a pipeline passing through Jordan and Syria to help increase Lebanon's electricity production.
