The young player Omar Marmoush caught attention and led the Egyptian national team to an important victory over Libya in the World Cup qualifiers on Friday, in his first appearance with the "Pharaohs." The "Pharaohs" topped Group Six of the African qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup with 7 points, while Libya slipped to second place with 6 points, before a new encounter between the two teams in Benghazi on Monday.
In his first official match, Egypt's new head coach, Portuguese Carlos Queiroz, showed bravery by starting Marmoush, a Stuttgart player, in his international debut. The attacking winger met the expectations of the coach and fans, as he scored the only goal of the match in the 47th minute with a powerful shot from outside the penalty area. Marmoush is 22 years old and is on loan to Stuttgart from German club Wolfsburg; he has previously represented Egypt at the youth levels. The Wadi Degla Academy product joined the senior national team after showcasing strong performances in the German league recently.
