In its first international visit since the Taliban returned to power, the Afghan Under-19 cricket team arrived in Bangladesh on Saturday. Afghanistan's cricket team is set to face their Bangladeshi counterparts in the same age group in a series of international matches from September 10 to 25, according to the Indian newspaper "Times of India."
Bangladesh Cricket Board spokesperson Rapid Imam stated, "The first group of 8 players arrived in Dhaka on Saturday. The remaining players will arrive in two other groups later." Cricket is one of the most popular sports in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and India. The Taliban took control in Afghanistan in recent weeks as U.S. troops began to withdraw from the country.
There are concerns that recreational activities in Afghanistan may cease with the return of the militant group, although the Taliban has asserted that it will respect human rights in the country.
