A judicial source stated that an Algerian court ruled on Saturday to detain former Tunisian presidential candidate Nabil Caruana on charges of illegally crossing the border. The source added that the court in the city of Constantine, eastern Algeria, also ordered the detention of four Algerians on human trafficking charges. The four are accused of assisting Caruana in entering the country and providing him with shelter before his arrest on Sunday. Caruana, the owner of Nessma TV and head of the political party Heart of Tunisia, the second-largest party in parliament, has been detained along with his brother Ghazi Caruana. A court in Tunisia had released Nabil Caruana on June 15 after he spent more than six months in detention on charges of money laundering and tax evasion.
