Bayern Munich took the lead with a goal from Robert Lewandowski in the 26th minute, and Serge Gnabry added the second goal in the 32nd minute. Benfica then reduced the deficit with a goal from Felipe Morato in the 37th minute, ending the first half with Bayern leading 2-1.
In the second half, Leroy Sane scored Bayern's third goal in the 49th minute before Lewandowski netted his second and Bayern's fourth in the 61st minute. Darwin Nunez then scored Benfica's second goal in the 74th minute, before Lewandowski completed his hat-trick and Bayern's fifth goal in the 84th minute. Lewandowski also missed a penalty for Bayern in the first minute of added time in the first half. Bayern Munich raised their points to 12 at the top of the standings, qualifying for the Round of 16 regardless of the results in the last two rounds, while Benfica remained with four points in third place.
