The village of Hamalaya, the birthplace of Saint Rafka, celebrated the 25th anniversary of her canonization in a significant spiritual event. The Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Mar Bechara Boutros Al-Rahi presided over the divine liturgy, welcomed by spiritual and political figures, as well as locals. A recital was also held to mark the occasion.
In his sermon, Patriarch Al-Rahi highlighted that “Lebanon has long burdened itself with numerous conflicting agendas and priorities. It is essential for the benefit of the nation to become the common ground among the Lebanese people, as the country cannot be built by one faction triumphing over another. Rather, it requires a shared will to protect the land, uphold humanity, and lay the foundations for peace, justice, and stability.”
Reflecting on the testimony of Saint Rafka, Al-Rahi stated that “patience does not equate to surrendering to reality, but rather to perseverance in faith and working towards a better reality.” He pointed out that “Rafka suffered but was not defeated, she waited without ever losing hope, and remained steadfast without losing her faith.”
The patriarch concluded with a prayer through the intercession of Saint Rafka, asking that “believers learn to choose the ‘one thing needed,’ keep God at the center of their lives, and that the Lord blesses Hamalaya and Lebanon, preserving its people in peace and hope.” He reiterated, “Saint Rafka, pray for us and for Lebanon.”
