Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, marking the anniversary of the assassination of elected President Bashir Gemayel, emphasized that political disagreements, regardless of their intensity or scope, can never be justified through political assassination, whether by explosives or silencers.
Salam highlighted that the Lebanese experience has proven that assassination might end a person's life, but it has never succeeded in resolving political disputes. He believes that moving beyond the violent chapters in the country's history is achieved not by denying or forgetting them, but through accountability and reconciliation.
He asserted that managing differences in Lebanon should be based on democratic institutions and principles, steering clear of violence and assassinations. This approach would aid in reinforcing stability and safeguarding the political sphere.
