The brutal murder of a woman with a "Samurai sword" in Istanbul, Turkey, has triggered a wave of outrage among the public in Turkey. The Demiroren News Agency published photographs today showing the perpetrator walking in Istanbul armed with the sword. Shortly after, he attacked a 28-year-old woman in the street. The woman, an architect, later died from her injuries in the hospital. The perpetrator has since been apprehended. According to previous reports, neither the perpetrator nor the victim knew each other. Media reports state that the 27-year-old perpetrator said after the murder that he wanted to kill someone out of boredom, choosing a woman as his victim because a man might resist him. The women's rights organization "We Will Stop Femicide" has recorded 310 female homicides in Turkey so far this year, with 18 women killed in September alone.
