Video: Al-Kadhimi Strolls Through Iraq's Most Populous Area Days After Assassination Attempt

Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi toured Al-Falah Street in Sadr City, southern Baghdad, today, Wednesday, which is considered one of the most densely populated areas in Iraq, just days after an assassination attempt on him.

The circulated video on social media shows Al-Kadhimi walking with his security guards, surrounded by a group of local residents. The Iraqi Security Media Cell announced this past Sunday the failure of the assassination attempt after his home in the Green Zone was targeted with a drone loaded with explosives.

The cell stated in a press release: "The Prime Minister was not harmed and is in good health. The security forces are taking the necessary measures regarding this failed attempt."

Furthermore, the head of the media cell, Saad Maan, told local media that the attack "originated from an area 12 km northeast of Baghdad." Al-Kadhimi reassured Iraqis about his safety in a tweet before appearing in a video saying, "Cowardly rockets and drones do not build nations or a future." Many countries condemned the assassination attempt.
