In recent hours, the murder of the Syrian girl Mariam Mohammed, who was stabbed 15 times in various parts of her body, has shaken Jordanian society and become a topic of discussion on social media. The 27-year-old woman was found bleeding in the Al-Ashrafiya neighborhood of the capital, Amman, last Friday at the hands of a Jordanian man.
Investigations revealed by the spokesperson for the Public Security Directorate in Jordan on Monday indicated that the perpetrator had proposed to the girl multiple times, but she had rejected him, leading him to murder her.
Authorities received a report of an Arab girl being stabbed by an unknown assailant while in the Al-Ashrafiya area, and she soon succumbed to her injuries. Investigations and information gathering identified the suspect, who had fled the scene after committing the crime. The authorities moved swiftly to apprehend him in preparation for legal proceedings.
It was revealed that the murderer is a Jordanian man born in 1987, with a criminal record including charges of "assault, defamation, threats, and carrying a weapon."
On social media, the crime has sparked significant outrage, with details of the young woman's murder circulating widely. Twitter users have launched the hashtag #حق_مريم_محمد ("The Right of Mariam Mohammed"), demanding the harshest penalties against the perpetrator.
