The German Thyroid Center stated that iodine is very important for thyroid health, as it helps in the secretion of thyroid hormones that control metabolism and body growth. The center explained that the daily requirement for iodine ranges between 150 and 200 micrograms for adults, 230 micrograms for pregnant women, and 260 micrograms for breastfeeding mothers. Iodine deficiency can be indicated by observing certain symptoms such as persistent fatigue, lethargy, growth problems (in children), poor concentration, breathing and swallowing difficulties, feelings of tightness and pressure in the throat, and sensitivity to cold. Food sources of iodine include milk, eggs, sea fish like salmon, seafood, and iodized table salt.
