On Tuesday, the German prosecution charged a Syrian national with ties to ISIS for preparing to carry out an attack in Germany. The suspect, identified only as Abdullah in accordance with German privacy laws, appeared before a Berlin court, where he faced charges of preparing violent acts and financing terrorism, according to the Associated Press. The suspect was arrested in November 2019 in connection with another case, but the prosecution's statement did not provide any details about it.
Federal prosecutors stated that he decided to execute an attack in Germany in June 2019, similar in scale to previous ISIS attacks in Europe, and aimed to kill or injure as many people as possible. The prosecution noted that the man acquired materials for making explosives, including acetone, hydrogen peroxide, and sulfuric acid. He also researched how to use ordinary fertilizers as explosives, obtained various metal parts and tools, and began constructing a machine gun. Prosecutors indicated that the alleged plans were halted upon his arrest.
