Five months after his crisis that garnered significant sympathy worldwide, the career of Danish star Christian Eriksen is surrounded by many questions, amid strong doubts about his return to the pitch. During a match in "Euro 2020" against Finland, Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest on the field and collapsed, before a medical team intervened to perform CPR and saved him from death.
Eriksen was transferred to a nearby hospital, where doctors implanted a device to regulate his heartbeat and he was banned from practicing sports indefinitely. Despite the months that have passed since the incident, the player's fate remains uncertain. Since June 12, he has not stepped foot on a football field or any sports facility, and very little is known about his daily life, which he keeps highly private.
There is some debate among followers about whether doctors will allow the 29-year-old player to return to football, especially since his club, Inter Milan, stated that it would waive his services. This speculation is fueled by Eriksen currently carrying a defibrillator device to prevent a recurrence of what happened.
Spanish sports newspaper "Marca" reported that Eriksen is expected to undergo a series of fitness tests in Denmark before the end of this year, noting that the results of these tests will determine whether he can remove the pacemaker or not. The report continued: "If he succeeds, he may be able to return to Inter Milan; if he fails, he would have to leave, as the rules of the Italian league do not permit it."
However, it is not unlikely that Christian might then move to the English league or a team in a Scandinavian country, where regulations allow participation in professional matches even while carrying a defibrillator.
