A nutrition expert shared a list of foods that many people believe to be unhealthy, including pasta, nuts, and white rice. Australian nutritionist Laura Ford from Melbourne revealed six foods that science has shown to be healthy contrary to popular belief, as follows:
1. **Nuts**
Laura's first food item is nuts, which many dieters avoid due to their calorie content. She stated, "Nuts may be high in calories and fats, but they are rich in good fats. They are also full of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, making a handful of nuts a healthy snack to enjoy between lunch and dinner."
2. **White Rice**
White rice is another food often placed on "forbidden foods" lists by dietitians, but Laura explained that white rice is a great source of energy and carbohydrates that helps reduce the likelihood of consuming sugary foods, thus lowering calorie intake.
3. **Eggs**
Laura stated: "Eggs contain protein, and the yolk is packed with various vitamins and minerals that help you absorb the protein in the egg, so it's essential to eat the whole egg to gain all its benefits."
4. **Pasta**
Pasta is a staple in the Mediterranean diet, which is regularly described as one of the healthiest eating patterns in the world. Laura mentioned that she recommends pasta as it is a fantastic source of carbohydrates and beneficial for eliminating harmful gut bacteria. She advises combining pasta with a plant source and plenty of vegetables for maximum health benefits.
5. **Grains**
Grains have gained a bad reputation over the past few years, as some nutritionists have advised ditching them in favor of foods like meat, fish, eggs, seeds, nuts, fruits, and vegetables, along with healthy fats and oils. However, Laura says grains are beneficial for health, providing a significant source of fiber, carbohydrates, and various vitamins and minerals.
