Switzerland Investigates the Accounts of Lebanon's Central Bank Governor

Lebanese Minister of Justice Marie-Claude Najm stated today, Tuesday, that she has received a request for judicial cooperation from the Swiss judicial authorities regarding providing legal assistance related to the financial transfer file involving the Governor of the Central Bank of Lebanon, Riad Salameh.

Minister Najm added that she has forwarded the request concerning the central governor to the Public Prosecutor for appropriate action. The Governor of the Central Bank of Lebanon, Riad Salameh, has faced severe criticism since last year over reports of foreign companies owned by him that possess assets worth approximately $100 million and that have invested in real estate in the UK, Germany, and Belgium over the past ten years. Salameh stated that he disclosed his wealth before becoming the Governor of the Central Bank of Lebanon in 1993, which amounted to $23 million.
