In Sweden: A Company Develops a Chip Under the Skin to Store COVID-19 Data

A Swedish company has developed a tiny chip that can be used to store vaccination passport data against the coronavirus under the skin. According to the British newspaper "Daily Mail," the technology allows the user to obtain a "COVID-19" certificate, indicating that the holder has received the vaccination against the virus, placed in the arm or other parts of the body, such as the thumb or index finger.

The Swedish company explained that the chip uses NFC (Near Field Communication) technology to communicate with any nearby compatible smartphone, as reported by the "Sputnik" agency. Regarding the procedure to insert the chip, the company confirmed that it is very simple and involves only a small incision because the chip is no larger than a grain of rice, and it can also be easily removed if desired.

A video published by the Swedish company demonstrated how the device works, as it automatically connects to the nearest NFC-enabled phone, after which the vaccination certificate appears on the terminal screen along with the necessary documents to present to health authorities, content read by an RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) scanner. The company noted that the technology used to store vaccination passport data against the coronavirus could be applied in various other purposes in the coming years.
