Russian Potapova Advances to Second Round of Hamburg

Russian Anastasia Potapova has advanced to the second round of the Hamburg Open (WTA 250), held on clay courts with prize money exceeding 200,000 euros. Potapova's qualification came at the expense of her compatriot Varvara Gracheva, as she won the match in straight sets, with scores of (7-5) and (6-3) in a match that lasted 1 hour and 33 minutes. The 21-year-old Potapova will await the winner of the match between Argentina’s Maria Lourdes Carli and Germany’s Yefka Lize in the second round. Meanwhile, Russians Daria Kasatkina and Anna Kalinskaya failed to advance past the first round, losing to Czech player Katerina Siniakova and Polish player Magdalena Fręch, respectively.
