Reports have revealed that Portuguese player Cristiano Ronaldo has joined the WhatsApp group of his English team, Manchester United, in an effort to unify the squad following recent disagreements. The English newspaper "The Sun" reported that the tensions began when Ronaldo criticized his teammates for poor performance, accusing younger players of not listening to advice, which was supported by coach Ralf Rangnick who stated that Ronaldo was right in his comments about the young players.
Teammate Luke Shaw expressed doubts about the "team unity" after the loss earlier this January to Wolverhampton. A source within the team told the newspaper that younger players enjoy using WhatsApp to share jokes, funny clips, music, and the latest fashion news. It continued that while Ronaldo is twice the age of some young team members, has five children, and is expecting another with his girlfriend, his life is vastly different from some of his teammates.
The source concluded that the players were surprised by his joining the group, but they were genuinely happy to communicate with him, which added more warmth among team members. Manchester United currently sits in fourth place in the English Premier League standings, 19 points behind their neighbor Manchester City, who are at the top.
