Minister of Education and Higher Education Issues Two Decisions Regarding Distance Learning

The Minister of Education and Higher Education in the caretaker government, Dr. Tarek Al-Majdoub, has issued two decisions regarding the regulation of distance learning in public and private schools and technical institutes.

The National News Agency reported this evening that the first decision, numbered 34/M/2021, pertains to the continuation of distance learning in public schools and high schools for morning and afternoon sessions, as well as in private schools. The agency clarified that the first decision indicated the continuation of distance learning in public schools and high schools for both morning and afternoon sessions, as well as in private schools, until a decision is issued for a return to blended learning.

The agency added that the second decision concerns the continuation of distance learning in schools and official technical institutes. The second decision stated that distance learning would continue in schools and official technical institutes (theoretical classes) until a decision for a return to blended learning is issued. The second decision noted that the General Director of Vocational and Technical Education would issue a circular to outline the mechanism for organizing practical lessons for students in schools and technical institutes until a decision for the return to blended learning is made.

In a different context, a correspondent from the National News Agency in Tripoli reported that the Student Club and the Student Union carried out a protest in front of the educational district in Tripoli "in protest against the recent decisions of the Ministry of Education without formulating comprehensive solutions to educational problems and systematic marginalization, and in rejection of the situation of teachers and students being face-to-face." The agency mentioned that banners and slogans demanding their educational rights were raised amidst measures taken by the security forces and the Lebanese army around the educational district building.
