The Ansar Allah group targeted King Khalid Air Base in the Asir region, located in southwestern Yemen, with a ballistic missile, achieving a precise hit.
A spokesperson for the armed forces affiliated with Ansar Allah (Houthis) confirmed today, Thursday, that they struck the "King Khalid" airbase in Khamis Mushait, Asir region, southwest of Saudi Arabia, with a previously undisclosed ballistic missile, affirming the accuracy of the hit. The spokesperson explained that targeting the base is a response to the ongoing aerial and military escalation by the aggression forces and the continuous blockade on their country.
The Saudi-led coalition in Yemen announced late Wednesday/Thursday that it intercepted and destroyed a drone laden with explosives launched by the Houthis from Yemen toward the city of Khamis Mushait. This aerial attack is the second of its kind within 24 hours, as official media reported on Wednesday morning that the Houthis attacked Abha Airport in southern Saudi Arabia, resulting in a fire on a civilian aircraft before it was extinguished.
The Ansar Allah group possesses diverse missile capabilities and various models of drones used in operational theaters within Yemen and against targets deep inside Saudi Arabia, which has led a coalition of Arab and Islamic countries since March 2015 in support of the internationally recognized Yemeni government’s efforts to reclaim vast areas in the north and west controlled by the group, including the capital Sana'a, over six years ago.
It appears that the Houthi rebels are intensifying their attacks on the Kingdom and on the internationally recognized Yemeni government forces. The new military operations come at a time when the administration of President Joe Biden is moving towards reversing the United States' strategy on Yemen after withdrawing support for Saudi Arabia, Washington's ally, in addition to reversing the designation of the Ansar Allah group as a terrorist organization.
