Iraqi journalist and political activist, Ali Makdam, stated on Sunday that he does not know the organization behind his abduction and torture. Makdam, whose face showed clear signs of torture, said, "I do not accuse any specific group; I do not know this group as I lost consciousness during my abduction." In an interview with "Sky News Arabia," he mentioned that he suffers from some bruises and a broken tailbone, along with the marks from beatings received with sticks on his back. He added, "The medical staff at the hospital did what was necessary and took care of me properly."
Makdam revealed that he had been threatened for years, suggesting that his recent article regarding Iran's handling of the assassination of activists might be the reason behind what happened to him. He continued, "The security forces in Iraq are continuing their investigation and promised me good news." He concluded by emphasizing that "the abduction will not stop me from continuing my activism; what happened will only strengthen my determination and insistence in my field," adding, "Ali Makdam's pen will not be tarnished."
Iraqi security forces managed to rescue activist Ali Makdam, who was kidnapped in the capital Baghdad on Friday, and his disappearance garnered widespread public sympathy due to his role in the movement and his civil activity against the dominance of militias.
