A representative from the non-governmental organization Sherpa stated on Monday that a lawsuit filed in France regarding allegations of corruption in Lebanon targets the Governor of the Central Bank of Lebanon, Riad Salameh, his brother, and one of his aides. Laura Rosso, Director of the Illegal Financial Flows Program at Sherpa, told Reuters that the lawsuit, filed on Friday, concerns real estate assets worth millions of euros in France. Salameh has repeatedly denied committing any violations. In response, the Governor of the Central Bank told Reuters that he purchased these properties before his appointment as Governor. He added that he disclosed the source of his wealth and presented documents "on numerous occasions," asserting that his wealth amounted to $23 million before his appointment in 1993.
