The public prosecution in Egypt continued its investigation yesterday into the crime that horrified Egyptians, involving the Ismailia killer who beheaded a citizen and paraded the head in the streets of Ismailia. Egyptian media reported that the suspect, Abdel Rahman Dabbour, appeared in a state of unawareness, shock, and lack of focus just before the investigation began and repeatedly uttered the phrase "Is there something wrong?" without interruption.
On Tuesday, the suspect told the public prosecution that he had worked with the brother of the victim, named Hassan, in a furniture shop for three years, and that he had entered a rehabilitation facility for addiction treatment. He noted that after recovering and being discharged, he discovered that the victim had assaulted his mother and sister, prompting him to seek revenge in public.
He reenacted the crime under tight security at the crime scene, detailing how he stalked the victim, revealing the number of stabs he inflicted until the victim fell to the ground, followed by beheading. In contrast, the victim’s brother denied the killer's accusation that his brother had sexually assaulted family members. He stated, "We considered him one of our children, and my deceased brother is the one who raised him." He also added that the victim was elderly, suffered from liver disease, was married, and supported seven children.
An eyewitness named Ismail Mohamed Yousef described the incident to "Al Arabiya.net." He said he was passing through Tanta and Al-Bahari streets on his way to the market to buy some vegetables for his home when he heard screams and cries for help. He immediately rushed to the scene and found a young man attacking another laying in the street, severely injured in the head. He recounted, "I approached him and tried to push him away from the victim with my bike," but the angry man shouted at him to stay away.
He insisted that he tried hard to push the young man away and prevent him from committing the crime, even attempting to convince him not to waste his future by committing such an act. However, the killer continued to scream, revealing, "Stay away, he raped my mother and wife twice." The witness stated that upon hearing this, he was filled with horror and left the crime scene, never to pass through that street again.
It is noteworthy that the security forces in Ismailia had received a report from residents about a person who had beheaded another named Mohamed Al-Sadiq on Tanta street, prompting them to rush to the scene and arrest the killer.
