Turkey Summons US Ambassador

On Sunday, the Turkish Foreign Ministry summoned the US ambassador and expressed its displeasure regarding a statement issued by the embassy ahead of a political gathering in Istanbul on Saturday. The US embassy in Ankara, in its statement, advised American citizens to stay away from locations of opposition political gatherings in Istanbul, citing "the use of water cannons and tear gas by Turkish police to disperse demonstrators in previous instances." In response to the American statement, the Turkish Foreign Ministry recommended that its citizens residing in the United States exercise caution during the organization of large demonstrations and events in their location. The ministry noted in a statement incidents of live ammunition use, electric shocks, and gas deployment to disperse protests, despite the American security forces taking precautions during such gatherings.
