North Korean leader Kim Jong Un participated in the funeral of Marshal Hyun Chol He, an advisor to the Ministry of Defense, who passed away last Friday. The North Korean leader expressed his condolences over the death of his military advisor, with official state television broadcasting footage of Kim Jong Un carrying the casket of the late advisor.
Hyun, who was 87 years old, was known for establishing Kim Jong Un's "unitary leadership system" in the army and was a key figure in the ruling Workers' Party, serving as a member of the Political Bureau and the Central Committee. Media sources indicated that the late advisor aided former president Kim Jong Il in strengthening control over the armed forces and served as the personal guard of Kim Il Sung, the founder of the republic. Hyun also influenced the education of the current North Korean leader, Kim Jong Un.
