Pollution in Europe Responsible for 10% of Cancer Cases!

The European Environment Agency has warned that around 10% of recorded cancer cases in Europe are linked to various forms of pollution, noting that most of these cases could be avoided. The agency explained in a statement that "exposure to air pollution, secondhand smoke, as well as ultraviolet radiation, asbestos, certain chemicals, and other pollutants represent the underlying causes of more than 10% of cancer cases in Europe." This number could significantly decrease if policies aimed at combating pollution were strictly implemented, the agency mentioned. Meanwhile, Ganardo Sanchez, an expert at the European Environment Agency, confirmed before the report's release, which is the agency's first to address the link between cancer and the environment, that "all environmental and occupational risks causing cancer can be mitigated." He stated that "environmentally-related cancer cases, for which radiation or carcinogenic chemicals are among the causes, can be reduced to a minimal level."
