On Saturday, President Joe Biden's doctor confirmed that the president's condition is improving two days after announcing his COVID-19 infection. Dr. Kevin O'Connor stated in a memo that "Biden is not experiencing shortness of breath and his blood oxygen levels are normal," adding that his condition continues to improve.
O'Connor speculated that Biden is infected with the BA.5 variant of the coronavirus. He noted that the symptoms Biden is experiencing include a runny nose, mild cough, and body aches. The U.S. president confirmed in a tweet on Thursday that he is doing "very well" after the White House announced his COVID-19 infection.
The White House stated that the 79-year-old president is experiencing "mild symptoms" and will continue to work during his isolation period. They promised to provide "daily" updates on Biden's health, the oldest elected president in the United States, who, according to a medical examination last November, was deemed "fit" and "capable" of performing his duties. The United States is currently recording approximately 130,000 COVID-19 infections daily, a number that experts believe is an undercount, while hospitalizations are on the rise. The highly contagious Omicron BA.5 variant is spreading across the country, accounting for about 80 percent of infections.
