Abu Dhabi Police warned against fraudulent websites that falsely bear the names of famous restaurants and stores, offering attractive deals to the public in exchange for payments that result in the withdrawal of funds from credit cards on these fake sites. Major General Mohamed Suhail Al-Rashedi, Director of the Criminal Security Sector, emphasized Abu Dhabi Police's commitment to continuously educate the public about fraudulent practices and phishing through the internet and social media. He noted the necessity of caution when dealing with strangers, especially since anyone can create accounts on these sites using fake data or misleading information aimed at deception or target acquisition.
He explained that with the spread of the internet, fraudulent methods are increasing, often exploiting victims' needs or their desire to obtain certain services at competitive prices. Communication typically occurs through these sites without any physical presence within the country or reliable phone numbers, stating that a number of related cases have been recorded.
For his part, Colonel Rashid Khalaf Al-Zahiri, Director of the Criminal Investigation and Investigation Department in the Criminal Security Sector, urged the public to be cautious and avoid interacting with these fake websites, which exploit their needs and primarily engage in electronic fraud by misleading them into believing they are receiving attractive offers from well-known stores or restaurants in exchange for fees that ultimately do not meet their needs.
He encouraged the public, in the event of experiencing fraud, to promptly contact the Aman service, which operates around the clock and confidentially, at the toll-free number 8002626 (AMAN2626), via text messages (2828), through email (aman@adpolice.gov.ae), or through the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters app.
