Sources from "Al Arabiya" reported that Cairo has engaged in security communications with Israel, urging an immediate halt to the escalation in Jerusalem and the illegal eviction of Palestinian homes. Cairo emphasized the need to freeze settlement operations, warning that further escalation could signal another Palestinian uprising. The sources noted that security officials called on both Israeli authorities and Palestinian factions to work towards de-escalation to prevent worsening conditions, affirming that security communications will continue to halt the escalation.
Over 175 Palestinians and 6 Israeli police officers were injured on Friday night in clashes, primarily in the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, between Palestinians and Israeli security forces, marking some of the most intense confrontations in years in occupied East Jerusalem. The Palestinian Authority held Israel "fully responsible" for the events.
On Friday, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its strong condemnation and denunciation of the Israeli authorities storming the Al-Aqsa Mosque and assaulting Palestinians and worshipers. It stressed the necessity for Israeli authorities to bear their responsibility under international law to provide necessary protection for Palestinian civilians and their right to practice religious rituals. Moreover, it urged a halt to any practices that violate the sanctity of Al-Aqsa Mosque and the holy month of Ramadan, as well as the Arab Islamic and Christian identity of Jerusalem and its holy sites, which alter the existing historical and legal status.
Ambassador Ahmed Hafez, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reiterated total rejection of any illegal practices aimed at undermining the legitimate and established rights of the Palestinian people, especially regarding the continuation of settlement policies in Palestinian territories through the construction of new settlements, expansion of existing ones, land confiscation, or the displacement of Palestinians. Such actions represent a violation of international law, undermine the prospects for a two-state solution, and threaten the foundations of security and stability in the region.
In this context, the spokesperson condemned current efforts to forcibly displace Palestinian families from their homes in the "Sheikh Jarrah" neighborhood of East Jerusalem, which constitute a violation of international legitimacy and humanitarian law, as well as a continuation of the policy of forced displacement of Palestinians.
