Egyptian writer and screenwriter Mariam Naoum revealed a planned collaboration with Oscar-winning Irish screenwriter and director Terry George to produce a crime series centered around the famous story of the sisters Rya and Sakeena. The new series, expected to be filmed in the city of Alexandria, will be titled "The Alexandria Killings."
The dialogue will be in both Arabic and English, as the events of the series take place during the British rule of Egypt in the early 20th century, around the time Rya and Sakeena emerged. Naoum stated in a special interview with "Sky News Arabia" that preparations for the work are currently underway, confirming that "in the coming days, behind-the-scenes details will be revealed."
Real Crime Depiction
According to a statement from the independent film distribution company "Front Row Filmed Entertainment" in the Middle East and North Africa, this project will serve as the first part of a series on true crime selections in the region, set in various periods and locations within the Arab world.
The statement continued: "The series is set in Alexandria in 1920 when Egypt was under British rule, and it will tell the true story of Rya and Sakeena, as the sisters came from a poor neighborhood in Alexandria and opened a house for immoral activities."
