Saudi Arabia welcomed the announcement by the United Nations Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, regarding the extension of the ceasefire in Yemen for an additional two months, emphasizing the importance of opening humanitarian corridors in Taiz. In a statement, the Saudi Foreign Ministry stated: "The Kingdom appreciates the efforts of the UN Special Envoy to Yemen, Mr. Hans Grundberg, in enhancing commitment to the UN-brokered ceasefire, in line with the initiative announced by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in March 2021 to end the crisis in Yemen and achieve a comprehensive political solution."
The Ministry stressed "the Kingdom's firm position in support of all that ensures the security and stability of the Republic of Yemen and fulfills the aspirations of the Yemeni people." It reiterated that "the ceasefire aims primarily at reaching a lasting and comprehensive ceasefire in Yemen and initiating the political process between the Yemeni government and the Houthis."
It also underscored "the importance of the Houthis’ (Ansar Allah group) commitment to the terms of the current ceasefire and the swift opening of corridors in Taiz to alleviate the humanitarian suffering there, as well as depositing revenues in the Central Bank of Yemen to pay civilian salaries."
