Saudi and Kuwaiti Ambassadors Return to Lebanon

The newspaper "Asharq Al-Awsat" reported: The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced yesterday the return of the Kingdom's ambassador to Beirut after being summoned for consultations at the end of October last year. According to a Saudi statement, this move came in response to calls from moderate national and political forces in Lebanon, and it is a commitment from the Lebanese government to take the necessary actions to enhance cooperation with Saudi Arabia and Gulf countries, as well as to stop all political, military, and security activities that affect Gulf states.

Prime Minister Najib Mikati stated via Twitter: "We appreciate the decision of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to return its ambassador to Lebanon, and we affirm that Lebanon is proud of its Arab identity and is committed to maintaining the best relationships with Gulf countries that have been and will continue to be supportive and steadfast." Moreover, Mikati was informed by the Kuwaiti Ambassador Abdul Aal Al-Qunaie of the Kuwaiti government's decision to return to Beirut before the end of the week. President Mikati confirmed that "what unites Lebanon and Kuwait is a history of strong brotherly relations that grow stronger with time." He also thanked Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Ahmed Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Sabah for the efforts he made to restore the clarity and vitality of Lebanese-Gulf relations.
