Two people were killed and another injured in a shooting outside a church in Vestavia Hills, Alabama, in the southern United States, according to the city’s police. An officer from Vestavia Hills Police stated in a press conference that three people were shot at St. Stephen's Church. He added, "Based on the information we've gathered about this incident, a suspect entered a small church gathering alone and began shooting, wounding three people, two of whom died, while the other is receiving treatment for an unknown injury at a local hospital." In an earlier statement, police mentioned that one person died and two were injured due to the attack. The police confirmed that a suspect was detained and that "there is no additional threat" to the city. The shooting occurred outside the church shortly after 6:00 PM local time during a food event, according to the St. Stephen's website. The recurring mass shootings have sparked widespread anger in the United States, where a majority of the population supports stricter gun laws, but opposition from many Republican legislators and voters has long been an obstacle to significant changes.
